Newcastle boss Howe provides concerning Bruno Guimaraes fitness update – 101 Great Goals
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has, late on Sunday, provided an update on the wellbeing of midfield standout Bruno Guimaraes.
For those not aware, Brazilian international Guimaraes set pulses racing across the Newcastle fanbase earlier today.
This came as the Magpies climbed back clear of Manchester United into 3rd in the Premier League table, courtesy of a hard-fought downing of Fulham.
After Aleksandr Mitrovic blew the chance to put Fulham in front from the penalty spot 20 minutes from time, Alexander Isak emerged from the bench to nod home the game’s winner at the other end, just shy of the full-time whistle.
As alluded to above, though, on an otherwise stellar afternoon for Newcastle, one major source of concern was too forthcoming, on the personnel front.
This came upon the aforementioned Bruno Guimaraes being forced into a premature departure from the action.
After pulling up with an ankle problem shortly before the interval, the former Olympique Lyonnais talent failed to emerge for the 2nd-half.
Speaking on the back of the clash coming to a close, Eddie Howe, in turn, was drawn on Guimaraes’ wellbeing.
And the Newcastle boss’ ensuing update proved altogether concerning, ahead of the midfielder undergoing a round of medical scans over the days ahead:
“Yeah, he was (in some distress), and he was after the game too, he was worried about his ankle. It was a twist. He felt we could carry on until right at the end of the first half when he signalled to come off. Never, never a good sign.
“From our perspective, we have to get it scanned and checked out and see what the damage is. We hope it’s not long-term. But at this moment in time, we don’t know.”
The latest on Bruno Guimaraes’ injury, with Eddie Howe’s post-game explanation.
No clarity yet, but it doesn’t sound great.
Would be a big blow to #NUFC if he is out for an extended period. Howe admitted he probably should have withdrawn him sooner. https://t.co/FYPown9YFx
